The Reporter: 2010 GHI places Ethiopia in the bottom five

The annual report of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Welthungerhilfe and Concern Worldwide placed Ethiopia in the bottom five on the 2010 Global Hunger Index (GHI). The criteria which were used to measure the country and put it just above lawless Somalia, disaster-riven Haiti and the rogue state of Eritrea are access to basic education, teacher-student ratio and educational provision for girls.

Based in Washington D.C., the institution's report singled out Ethiopia as the worst place where press freedom has immensely deteriorated, if any existed. Released on October 13, the report bestows another ignoble distinction on Ethiopia by stating the country is the second poorest place on earth and the second most expensive place to get broadband internet access.

The institutions are eminent in undertaking researches on economic participation, educational attainment, political empowerment as well as health and survival in 84 countries. This year, the report focuses on the crisis of child under-nutrition as a challenge of hunger.
