Bangladesh IYCF Storybook: Happy Child, Happy Family
Alive &Thrive collaborated with the Bureau of Non-Formal Education (BNFE) in developing three easy-to-read storybooks for adolescents and adults up to age 45 who have basic literacy skills. The attached book focuses on complementary feeding, while the other books focus on maternal nutrition and exclusive breastfeeding and adolescent nutrition. The books will be distributed in 7,000 learning centers. The centers are open six days a week and are attended by those who want to improve their literacy and develop vocational skills. They are run by NGOs, often in the room of a home or a community center. The centers are equipped with cupboards for books, a TV, benches, desks, and a sewing machine. BNFE supervises and monitors the centers. Each center has two shifts. The afternoon shift is for adolescent girls and women, and the evening shift is for adolescent boys and men. Approximately 30 learners attend each shift during a nine-month course.
