In Ethiopia sub-optimal infant and young child feed ing (IYCF) practices result in early death, illness, and high rates of stunting. Alive & Thrive (A&T) aims to improve IYCF by reaching 5.4 million children under 2 years old primarily through intensive community-based interventions in the four most populous regions.

Increase exclusive breastfeeding among infants under six months old by 25% (from 49% to 61%)
Prevent stunting in more than 350,000 children under five years old

Our approach

Policy dialogue to raise awareness of the critical role of IYCF at multiple levels, particularly regional, and encourage investments in IYCF programs
Partnerships with government and private initiatives
Community-based activities through the government’s Health Extension Program and through safety net and emergency nutrition programs
Fortified complementary foods and related products to help address nutritional gaps in traditional diets
