Thousands of people learned about the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes as it celebrates its 40th anniversary during Facebook Live events featuring world-leading experts.
In June, shortly after the anniversary of the Code had been launched globally, David Clark presented an overview of the Code and then answered questions for an hour on Facebook Live. For 25 years, Clark led efforts at UNICEF to support countries to implement the Code across the globe. The event was moderated by Alive & Thrive social media manager Mackenzie Mayo. Later in the month, Ellen Sokol, author of the Code Handbook and a global authority on the Code, joined Edouard Zerbo of IBFAN West Africa, to discuss implementation of the Code in West Africa and answer questions on its various aspects. The event was moderated by Ndeye Yaga Sy of Helen Keller International, based in Senegal. The event was co-sponsored by UNICEF, the World Health Organization, IBFAN, and Helen Keller International.
