Early child growth: how do nutrition and infection interact? (Dewey, K., 2011. Maternal & Child Nutrition)

Topic(s): Complementary feeding, Research
Location: Global
Language(s): English
Audience: Program designers and implementers

This study reviews how the interaction between nutrition and infection affects child growth in low‐income populations. The analysis suggests that interventions which combine improved nutrition with infection prevention and control will likely be the most effective for optimal child growth and development. Development and evaluation of multiple objectives is needed, and specific approaches, such as hygiene education or improvements in water quality and sanitation should be prioritized in further research.
