Maternity Protection Policy Expansion for Female Workers in Informal Sector in Viet Nam

In Viet Nam, 50% of children are born to a mother who is not entitled to paid maternity leave, largely because female workers in the informal sector are excluded from these policies. Alive & Thrive has collaborated with SUN CSA Viet Nam to advocate for the expansion of maternity entitlements to the informal sector in Viet Nam.

A breastfeeding promotion intervention in private facilities in Lagos, which included training for healthcare providers, increased the percentage of exclusively breastfed infants but had no impact on early initiation of breastfeeding.

A review of editorial content, advertisements, and Facebook posts from 2015-2016 in Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam revealed inappropriate promotion and insufficient national regulation of breastmilk substitutes in the region.
