West Africa

From 2017 to 2022, Alive & Thrive’s regional West Africa platform worked closely with UNICEF, WHO, government ministries of health and other organizations to enhance maternal, infant and young child nutrition in francophone West and Central Africa building on Alive & Thrive’s model and lessons learned in Southeast Asia and Burkina Faso. Alive & Thrive served as a key provider of technical and strategic guidance to expand policy advocacy, build capacity, and promote use of data to improve nutrition and health outcomes for women and their families. At a regional level, Alive & Thrive supported the regional “Stronger With Breastmilk Only” initiative to increase rates of exclusive breastfeeding and the development of an innovative blended learning program to build capacity of nutrition officers in utilizing social behavior change in nutrition programs.
