The benefits of exclusive breastfeeding on mortality, health, and development of children have been well documented. In Burkina Faso, the Alive & Thrive initiative combined interpersonal communication and community mobilization activities with the aim of improving knowledge, beliefs, skills, and, ultimately, breastfeeding outcomes.
