This paper investigates expansion into a multilayered Collective Impact (CI) initiative and the use of policy advocacy in CI initiatives to address complex nutrition issues. In recent years, these issues are being addressed through global partnerships, platforms, and multi-sectoral initiatives to strengthen and align actors for better outcomes, but this approach has not yet been extensively studied in literature. Given the growing interest and potential of CI, there is a need to examine the governance of broad initiatives through a CI lens, such as the advocacy work of Alive & Thrive (A&T), UNICEF and partners. This initiative is taken as a case study, and the paper aims to 1) examine this initiative’s governments and adaptation from a national to regional, multilayered CI initiative and 2) compare advocacy in this initiative to typical CI initiatives, and envision how the practice of advocacy for policy change can be strengthened in CI broadly.
