Since 2014, Alive & Thrive (A&T) has partnered with the Burkinabe Ministry of Health to implement its National Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Scale Up Plan. A&T now looks ahead, steering its focus to strengthening the capacity of health and community-based systems to provide and sustain the level of nutrition care and support needed by women and their families. The timely collection of data and generation of learning for both IYCF and maternal nutrition lays the foundation for future A&T initiative work in Burkina Faso and other francophone West African countries.

Gerald is a native of Madagascar, where he began his career working on various HIV/AIDS and nutrition programs. Gerald brings to A&T over 20 years of experience, including work in the Democratic Republic of Congo and West Africa. Prior to joining A&T, Gerald was the Chief of Party for a USAID/Food For Peace program in Burundi. Gerald has also served as Chief of Party for a nutrition and hygiene project in Mali, and as the Health and Nutrition Director for a program in Burkina Faso.
Bancé Mariame brings more than 14 years of finance and accounting service to Alive & Thrive, including 10 years in the international development sector primarily with NGOs. Before joining Alive & Thrive, Mariame worked with the Canadian Center for Cooperation in Health and Development (CCISD), Planète Enfant et Développement, Samu social and many others. Mariame has advanced experience of USAID, EU, AFD and World Bank procedures and skills in logistics, human resources management, administration, budget development and monitoring. Mariame has a bachelor's degree in finance and accounting and is in the process of finalizing her master's degree in accounting, control and audit.
Mr. Lancina Bayoulou is a manager in nursing and obstetrics and graduated in management of companies and organizations with 24 years of service in 2019. His work has covered the from basic to intermediate levels of care, including the management of operational level activities. He has worked in various fields of health, including mother, infant and child nutrition, with experience in training, supervision, and management of health data. Evolving in NGOs since 2011, he has worked in the humanitarian, emergency and development sectors.
Yacouba Belem holds a Diploma of Health Attaché in Epidemiology and the Diploma of Nursing State at the National School of Public Health (ENSP) of Ouagadougou and has a professional license in Social Statistics from the Higher Institute of Population Sciences of the University of Ouagadougou. Previously, he was responsible for the Center for Health Information and Epidemiological Surveillance in the Health District of Po, then in the Center Health Region in Ouagadougou. He has held monitoring and evaluation positions in NGOs, such as Save The Children International and the Private and Community Initiative for Health and the Response to HIV / AIDS in Burkina Faso (IPC / BF) and contributed to the operationalization of DHIS2 (Endos-BF) at the community level with the support of the DSS of the Ministry of Health.
Roland Alexandre Combassere joined Alive & Thrive as a MIYCN Advisor in 2019 bringing a Specialized Post-Graduate Diploma in Food Industry / Nutrition from the University of Ouagadougou. He was previously a nutritionist in the Directorate of Nutrition at the Ministry of Health of Burkina Faso where he was in charge of the infant and young child feeding unit (IYCF). He actively participated in the development of the scaling up plan for infant and young child feeding interventions which is the benchmark for maternal nutrition and IYCF interventions in Burkina Faso. He also actively participated in the development of the guide for integrating nutrition into municipal / regional development plans, which allows for sustainability of nutrition interventions. In his former position, he supported the implementation of Phase 1 of the Alive & Thrive project in Burkina Faso. He has carried out numerous studies on nutrition with a focus on IYCF in different regions of the country.
Dr. Robert Karama has been Technical Coordinator of Alive & Thrive in Burkina Faso since May 2020. He is a doctor and also holds a master's degree in public health - policy and management of health services option - from the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp (Belgium). He has worked at all levels (peripheral, intermediate and central) of the health system in Burkina Faso. From February 2015 to September 2018 and from October 2018 to May 2019, he successively served as Regional Director of Health for the Boucle du Mouhoun Region and Secretary General of the Ministry of Health. This path has enabled him to contribute to the development and implementation of major public health and nutrition programs and strategies, particularly the implementation of the pilot phase of the Alive & Thrive project from 2015 to 2017 in the Boucle du Mouhoun Region.
Ms. Aminata BARGO MAIGA is a midwife executive with a graduate diploma in nursing and midwifery. She has twenty-eight (28) years of experience in the field of reproductive, maternal, neonatal child health. For more than 20 years, she was a caregiver, supervisor, trainer, coordinator of reproductive health and nutrition programs, as well as Director of care in the health system at the peripheral and intermediate levels. She has worked in non-governmental organizations in the management of maternal, newborn and nutrition programs for eight (8) years. She joined the Alive & Thrive team in January 2019 as Regional Coordinator for the North Central region.
Benjamin Sanou has over 12 years of experience in procurement, contract, and security management. Before joining Alive & Thrive, Benjamin worked with Plan International and Save the Children in Burkina Faso. He has a good knowledge of procurement and contracting procedures of donors such as USAID, USDA, the Global Fund, and the European Union. He holds a master's degree in Logistics with a specialty in Procurement and Contract Management.
Lamissi SAWADOGO is a nurse specializing in nursing and midwifery management. He has 15 years of professional experience, including seven years in project coordination with international organizations such as Save the Children International, Hélène Keller International, and Mwangaza Action. In the public service, he has mainly worked in peripheral health units, in the district management team and in the regional health directorate. Since February 2019, he has been a member of the Alive & Thrive team as regional coordinator for the Boucle du Mouhoun.
Ms. Namwin None has over six years of experience in the secretarial field and has worked in both the public sector for the Ministry of Higher Education and with private sector companies. Before joining Alive & Thrive, she worked on FHI 360’s WASHPLUS project as the Program Assistant. Ms. Namwin None holds an MBA degree in International Human Resource Development.
Harouna Simpore has more than 10 years of driving experience. Before joining the Alive & Thrive team, Harouna was a missionary driver for the US Embassy and the Europcar group. Holder of a category C driving license obtained in September 2003, he is also trained as an auto mechanic.
