Despite a favorable policy environment for maternal, infant, and young child nutrition (MIYCN), frontline delivery of critical MIYCN interventions has been a sustained challenge in India’s public health nutrition programs.

The brief highlights key factors to scale up IYCF with impact based on a review of lessons learned from the A&T initiative and other successful global nutrition programs.

This information card presents a sampling of results from formative research in Uttar Pradesh (UP). Interviews, observations, and household trials were conducted to assess maternal nutrition, breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and sanitation/hygiene practices.

In February 2017, the first human milk bank in Viet Nam opened in the Da Nang Hospital for Women and Children (DNHWC). The Ministry of Health and Alive & Thrive selected to establish these services at the DNHWC because of the hospital’s existing emphasis on breastfeeding.

This program brief is targeted towards state/sub-state level decision makers and program managers, and outlines a set of recommendations for scaling up IYCF-Counselling Centres at the state/sub-state level.

With financial and technical support from Alive & Thrive and PATH, the Da Nang Department of Health launched Viet Nam’s first human milk bank at the Da Nang Hospital for Women and Children.
